Bucharest graffiti artists decorate undergrounds

The urban art of Graffiti has taken over Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, and can easily be seen by thousands of people everyday on walls but especially on underground trains.

On most of the trains the original paint has been covered with the “paintings” of the romanian graffers. Everything is a show that you can easily see on youtube. You cand find many movies posted by the same romanian graffers that do the paintings.

The wannabee painters are youngmen with covered faces so that they can’t be recognized by the police. They are very well trained and organized in groups of three or four, one of them being the cameraman. Because they are afraid not to get cought, they have developed their painting skills so that they cand paint an entire side of a train’s passenger car in 3 to 4 minutes.

All of them have bags in which they carry their spraypaints and wear large clothes. Their targets are the old underground trains of the Bucharest underground network and even the underground station’s walls. The tramways and the buses in Bucharest are also a victim of the graffiti artists.

My personal opinion is that this a form of art that should be encouraged not punished. I think that if the artists would have a place of their own where they could paint and expose their works then they wouldn’t paint the underground trains. There should be contests of graffiti organized and I think many people would pay to see such contests because many people love graffiti.

Here are some of the videos that you can see with the romanian graffers:

Romania to use local hackers against Russia

We all know Romania doesn’t lack intelligence when it comes to hacking and it seems that Theodor Melescanu, the Romanian minister of defense, knows that too. “We have many talented people, including hackers” he said. The statement was made while announcing the participation of the Romanian Army in the future NATO center of excellence in cybernetic attack prevention.

The “talented people” will be used in preventing any cybernetic attack on Romania. Minister Melescanu divulged this information at yesterday’s press conference in Bucharest together with the minister of defense from Estonia, Jaak Aaviksoo.

The NATO center of excellence against cybernetic attacks is a proposal that came from Estonia, a country that suffered a lot from recent cybernetic attacks on the country’s electronic infrastructure.

Romania is entering the space era, 30 years after it’s peak and with baby steps but it’s a start. The first romanian satellite is a “nanosatellite” and weighs about 1.5 kilograms and has a cubic form with a 10 cm edge as Marius Piso, head of the Romanian Space Agency, announced today for the local newspaper Gandul. The satellite wil hover on an orbit situated at an altitude of 700 km.

The satellite was built entirely by Romanian specialists and students for the Romanian Space Agency and the total cost of the equipment in the satellite is about 150 000 euros.

The main purposes of the device will be in research (micrometeorites detection and measurement of ionic radiations) but it will also help military communications. The Romanian Ministry of Defence was involved in the project especially for this.

The satellite is ready and will be launched in October 2007 or in the beginning of 2008 with a space shuttle from the European Space Agency, which Romania is a part of. Power will be provided by solar batteries and the autonomy will be between 3 and 5 years.
